Refitting Garments Before Skin Weight Transfer

Workflow Overview

Once the 3D garment model is completed, its original pattern may not perfectly match the body structure of the target character (Template Avatar). Before proceeding with Transfer Skin Weight, refit the garment to the character.

The objective is to ensure that the garment’s structure and pattern fit the character when worn, helping prevent mesh penetration (clipping) or abnormal deformation during subsequent dynamic simulations or skeletal rigging.

For detailed instructions, please refer to the User Manual.

Refitting Methods

Depending on the team’s workflow, developers may choose either of the following methods to align and fine-tune the garment mesh:

  • Using Built-in Character Creator (CC) Tools: Use Edit Pose to adjust the character’s pose to match the garment, and Edit Mesh to refine the garment’s fit. For detailed information on the CC5.2 Edit Mesh feature updates, please refer to the User Manual.
  • Using Third-Party 3D Software: Precisely match the garment model to the target character’s mesh in your preferred 3D tool, such as Maya, Blender, or ZBrush, before importing.

Before and After Refitting

The following examples compare the garment before and after fitting it to the character.
